This is Judd's first editioned sculpture created more than 40 years ago. The second, third and fourth editioned
sculptures were created in 1969, 1971 & 1983. The artist made fewer than 500 editioned sculptures during his lifetime.
Although this first edition is relatively large, Judd's multiples are rarely on the market. This is especially true following
the escalation of Judd's prices in 2006 - the Christie's auction of 35 sculptures sold by The Judd Foundation.
Working Sketches - unique drawings
These drawings were used in the design process by Judd. They were
not intended to be pristine "finished" drawings, but rather, show the
artist working through various issues. (They include details followed
by "?") These sketches were handled by Judd and the fabricators and
have related handling marks.
The sheet is about 8.5" x 11"
The drawing was dated and initialed as to the place of
creation.
Copper Armchair - Lehni #1
This armchair incorporates the beauty and simplicity of Judd's design aesthetic. The artist designed his furniture to
be used. Whether this piece, however, is treated as a functional or sculptural object is up to the collector. In
addition, the collector will ultimately decide whether he or she desires to have the copper obtain a natural patina
or to "clean" it on a regular basis. This chair was created in 2006 by the licensed manufacturer in Switzerland.
Every detail, even the screws are created to specifications by the artist.
Price available on request.
The drawing relates to
Cor-ten steel pieces, such at
the one above..
